The Reason I conducted the research

Basically Why I’ve Chosen La Primavera As my franchise? Is because my friend is a franchiser for La Primavera where he has work here for almost 7 years as a franchise.
He is a full-time worker before he started to franchise the franchise and he was introduced to start this franchise by his previous supervisor due to his hardworking outstanding performance in working with La Primavera.

He told me that usually many people chose food franchise as their research topic but what they don’t know is that it is very expensive to start a food franchise because it is a daily consume product and service therefore it is very expensive to start a franchise. Furthermore he suggest that if I write about a report on La Primavera, he would gladly help me for information needed to apply in the repot.

Interview Conversation About La Primavera's Franchise

This conversation took placed at  Jaya Jusco Air Keroh Melaka where Mr. Christoper is working and he allow me to ask him question about his franchise and here is the conversation:

Benny:
So Mr. Christopher, Is the market's population growing for La Primavera?

Christopher:
Yes, La Primavera is a standard shoes franchise where we sell leather and standardized shoes for men and even woman, many regular customer comes get shoes from me because they know the quality of the shoes is always dependable and durable. We give 1 year warranty to most of the shoes if they are sold and if there is any problem with it we can 1 to 1 change it for you, no question asked. There are also some customers who demand on new arrival stocks so we have many pre-oder shoe models therefore sales are quite good and i think my demand of product are growing.

Benny:
Is the shoes you sell safe and reputable?

Christopher:
Yes, they are comfort shoes specially made to suit you and like always, we will recommended you what cutting shoes perfectly fit your feet and because it is quite durable like I'd mention just now, if there is any problem with the shoes, you can change them with us one to one change trade.

Benny:
What will the competition do if they wanted to compete with you in  your sales territory? Do any other franchisees operate in this general area?

Christopher:
There are few  franchisees around my area and they are Pierre Cardin, Larry, Crocodile and other local franchise, they all are quite stable on their shoes's price where there are no discount on new stocks but only on special occasions like J-card Day or big festival seasons where we are then allow to give discounts therefore i think it is quite equally and there also have their own regular customer as well so because of that, I would not worry on competitors around me.

Benny:
La Primavera has been Operating for how many years as a franchiser?

Christopher:
15 years actually.

Benny:
How many franchise outlets now exist for La Primavera? and how many outlet are company-owned?

Christoper
There are total of 15 outlets around west and east Malaysia, currently most of them are own by franchisers and i currently own two franchise of La Primavera in Melacca.

Benny:
Does any franchise have failed? Why?

Christoper:
So far no, all of them are still operating well.

Benny:
How does the franchiser provide you any help when your fundamental starting a new business with them? what kind of training program does the franchiser offer? How long does it last? what topics does it cover? Does the franchiser offer ongoing assistance and training?

Christopher:
Well, Our franchiser offers training skills to full timers in most outlet who requested and they will he teach on how to take care of the shoes they are handling, and even getting know how to find a proper size of shoes and shoes cutting for the customer to purchase.

Benny:
Will the franchise perform a location analysis to help you find a suitable side? If so, is there an extra charge for doing so?

Christopher:
Actually for La Primavera, they only allow to open their franchise outlet in  big shopping complex only therefore there are no location analysis needed unless there is a new shopping center is build.

Benny:
Any facilities and equipment are specifically needed in  the franchise to be operated? Who pays for construction? Is there a lease agreement?

Christopher:
Well, La Primavera will provide renovations and supply the display rack for newly open franchise therefore all facilities and storage space rent are being paid by the HQ.

Benny:
What is the total cost of the franchise? What are the initial capital requirements? Will the franchiser provide finance assistance? Of what Nature? What is the interest rate? Is the Franchiser financially sound enough to fulfill all its promises?

Christopher:
Well as for starters, A person can start La Primavera franchise with just only by working in the outlet, Unlike food franchise and other big franchise, they require a large sum of money to start but for La Primavera, you only need RM 20, 000 to start and if you don't have the capital to start, they will collect or deduct your salary monthly Rm 500 till it reach RM 20, 000 as an easy installment payment. Onces the RM 20, 000 is completely clear, if we pay or deduct by pay, it is an estimation of 3 years to clear and we will return the money back once you request to quit the franchise. Basically The RM 20, 000 is just a deposit for investment in La Primavera share in market. Therefore actually to join as a franchise in La Primavera you don't need to pay a single cent because they will return your investment to you with interest.

Benny:
Does the franchiser provide any basic income or payment? Are they reasonable for your particular area? Are they sufficiently documented?

Christopher:
Well, basically our income comes from the sales we sell and that is around 8% of total sale. With that 8%, we are require to use it to pay our part-time and full-time workers as well as other small expenses.

Benny:
Can you sell your franchise to a third party? Does the franchiser reserve the right to approve the buyer?

Christopher:
Well, No we can't sell our franchise to a third party because it's against the agreement of the contract in the contract we sign when we start the franchise.

Benny:
Once you open for business, exactly what support will the franchiser offer you?

Christopher:
When your franchise is open, the Franchiser will supply 100k stock of various model of shoes to start the business as well as few workers to help for the shifting 100k stock to the storage warehouse provided.

Benny:
How Does the franchise take complaints from and disputes with franchisees? How well has the system worked?

Christopher:
Well, usually the problem faced by La Primavera franchisees are the stock delivery delay where new stock are ask to be restock, therefore mostly the complaints to the franchise stock delay and they usually will contact the courier and ask them if the stock has arrived or has it being delay and they will find alternative to solve the problem as soon as possible at maximum of 1 week time.

Benny:
Thanks for the Information sharing Mr Christoper. It is graceful enough of you to allow us to know the confidential information about the company to us.

Christopher:
Your welcome.
